Welcome to our May issue of Business Bulletin, which we had held over so that we could present the 2012 Federal Budget news.

In this issue, we report on ...

Federal Budget 2012

The emphasis in this budget has been the return to surplus and as a result most strategies outlined were designed to cut spending or increase tax revenues.

The Budget contained previously announced changes, and new measures including significant changes to the tax loss measures. Click here for our highlights.

Dancing With Our Stars

Phillipsons is a proud sponsor of the 2012 Dancing With Our Stars event, with our very own Wayne van der Heide competing with dance partner Megan Paterson.

All proceeds from the event will go to Sale Elderly Citizens Village and Five Star Project. The goal is to raise $100,000 in 2012.

To help, make a donation to this Westpac Bank (Sale) account. BSB: 033253. Acc No: 234965. Each dollar paid into this bank account also counts as a vote for Wayne & Megan.

To help raise funds, Phillipsons has produced a recipe book focusing on 'Food to share'. Click here for a preview.
Books are $10 each. Phone 03 5144 4566 to order your copy.

The event will be on 16 June 2012. Phone Work Hire Australia on 03 5144 7488 for all enquiries.

Training is in full swing, with the event only weeks away.

Sick notes: what you need to know

A word from David Bates, our specialist employee relations partner

If you followed the news over the past few months you might have seen reports regarding Federal MP Craig Thomson. Mr Thomson ... was absent for more than a week from the Parliament due to illness, but the Opposition wasn't having any of it! They demanded the MP produce a certificate from his doctor proving that the MP was, indeed, sick. Did they have a right to do this? And more importantly, do you?
