Phillipsons Amateur Photography Competition


1. Parties to this Agreement:

Phillipsons Accounting & Financial Planning (ABN 87 103 720 181) (the Promoters) and The Criterion Hotel Sale.


Any Entrant.

2. Conditions of Entry:

Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these Conditions of Entry. Entry into this Competition is deemed acceptance of these Conditions of Entry.

3. Eligibility:

The competition is open to all clients and non-clients of Phillipsons but excludes professional photographers.

4. Dates of Competition:

a) The competition commences 1st November 2018 and finishes at 5pm Tuesday 30th April 2019. All entries must be emailed to Phillipsons or sent to Phillipsons on a USB containing the electronic images (high resolution is preferred).

b) Entries will not be acknowledged but USBs can be returned ON REQUEST. Participants have the obligation to ensure that entries are received.

5. Judging:

The competition will be judged by a panel of judges selected by the Phillipsons. Judging will take place during the month of May 2018. Each entry will be individually judged based on originality and creative merit and according to the category description under which it is entered. The judges' decision in relation to all aspects of this competition is final and binding on all who enter and no correspondence will be entered into.

6. Number of Entries & Categories:

Competitors may enter photographs under each of the following competition categories (the same photograph cannot be entered into multiple categories):

Section 1 – Portrait (person or animal)

A photograph that captures the likeness of a person / animal or a small group of people / animals in which the face and expression is predominant. The objective is to display the likeness, personality and even the mood of the subject/s.

Section 2 – Gippsland Landscape

Intended to show different places within Gippsland, showing little or no human activity, using subjects as land forms, weather or ambient light.

Section 3 – Agricultural Industry at work or play

Pictures of our industry, people and landscapes, showing everyday life or extraordinary situations. Pictorials must include people and may also include examples of caring for our livestock, environment and each other.

7. Specifications:

a) Photographs must not be taken by professional photographers or submitted by a competitor whose principal source of income is from photography.

b) Photographs must be submitted in a high resolution format: at least 1MB in size.

c) Entry photographs are not to have been published in any other media anywhere in the world (excluding social media).

8. Incomplete, Illegible, Incomprehensible or Offensive Entries:

Any entries, which at the discretion of the Promoters are deemed incomplete, illegible or incomprehensible, will be invalid and will not be included in the judging. The Promoters reserve the right to not exhibit any entry which, in its opinion, may cause offence.

9. Verification and Disqualification:

The Promoters reserve the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and participants, (including a participant's identity and membership status) and to disqualify any participant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Conditions of Entry or who tampers with the entry process. Failure by the Promoters to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

10. Entry method:

To enter, participants must:

a) Send image/s to or save image onto a USB and post or deliver to Phillipsons, 388 Raymond Street, Sale (PO Box 859, Sale Vic 3850).

b) Complete the nomination form: details including entrant's full name, address, email and telephone number, must accompany entries.

11. Prize Winners and Prizes:

a) The best entry as determined by the judges in the final judging will be deemed the prize winner. The judges' decision will be final.

b) Prizes will be awarded for the following:

People's Choice – favourite image, from the top 5 finalists of sections 1, 2 & 3 chosen by Facebook vote.

Section 1: Portrait (First place only) - $300 Graze Family Bistro voucher.

Section 2: Gippsland Landscape (First place only) - $500 Sale Garden Supplies voucher.

Section 3: Agricultural industry at work or play (First place only)  - RM Williams Comfort Craftsmen Boots kindly donated by The Stable Door, Sale.

c) Prizes are non-transferable and non-redeemable for cash. Prizes or any unused portion of the prizes are not exchangeable for other goods or services and cannot be taken as cash.

d) Entries received will be eligible for a random draw for month of November and  December 2018, January, February, March & April 2019 with one random winner at the end of each of the above month's receiving a meal voucher to value of $100 at The Criterion Hotel.

12. Contacting the Winners:

a) The winner(s) will be announced 27th May 2018.

b) Winner(s) will be contacted by email using the contact details provided in their entry.

c) Details of winners will be published on the Phillipsons website and Phillipsons Facebook.

d) The Promoters accept no responsibility for late, lost, incorrectly entered or misdirected entries.

13. Warranty:

By entering the competition, each participant warrants to the Promoters that the entry (including but not limited to the photograph provided) and any other work subsequently submitted is an original, artistic work of the participant, has not been wholly or partially copied from any other design or artistic work and does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party. The participant agrees to indemnify the Promoters against all claims and costs by third parties arising from a breach of the warranty set out in this condition.

14. Ownership of Entries:

a) Each entrant assures the Promoters that he or she is:

i) the owner of the copyright in the photograph; and

ii) that the entrant has the permission of the people shown in the entered photograph to include them in the photograph and that they have no objections of the photograph being published or used in any medium for any purpose by the Phillipsons Accounting Services and Phillipsons Financial Planning.

b) Each entrant assigns to the Promoters the right to use the entered photograph/s in any of their promotional material, websites, social media or similar at any time in the future without gaining prior permission from the entrant. The Promoter is not bound to credit the entrant in these circumstances.

c) The sponsors Phillipsons Accounting & Financial Planning , The Criterion Hotel and The Stable Door will have access to the finalist's images and supporting material for their website.

15. Personal Information:

The collection, use and disclosure of personal information provided in connection with this competition is governed by the privacy policy on the Phillipsons website at  A request to access, update or correct any information should be directed to the Promoter at PO Box 859, Sale Vic 3850.

16. Permits:

This competition and none of its categories represent games of chance and therefore no permit is required.

17. Employees of Phillipsons and their immediate families are ineligible to enter (immediate family includes, brother(s), sister(s), parents and children of employee).

18. At the completion of the competition, including once winners have been notified, the sponsors – Phillipsons Accounting & Financial Planning will select photographs from entries received and create and arrange to be printed a 'coffee table style' book and offer these books for sale with all profits raised to be donated to "A Better Life For Foster Kids Inc".
